Why can't I forward @mydomain.com email to my ISP
mailbox?
Some ISPs provide a 'this is spam' button which results in the forwarding source being blocked. If we allowed the auto-forwarding of @mydomain.com email to these ISPs, and the recipient used the "Report Spam" button on spam delivered by their forwarding rule, the Modwest network would be identified as the "spammer". This is because when these ISPs receive a Modwest-forwarded message, all their server can determine about the message is that Modwest servers sent it. If enough spam reports are received by the ISP, they block all email from all Modwest customers, causing delivery delays of hours or days or permanent rejection of messages destined for all recipients at that ISP. Therefore, because of these ISP policies, we must prohibit forwarding to them to protect all Modwest customers from the inconvenience of having legitimate mail blocked.
ISPs with similar policies to which we must prevent forwarding are:
- AOL / Netscape
- Comcast
