How do I delete hundreds or thousands of emails
easily?
If you have too many messages in your mailbox to delete easily using Outlook, webmail, or other mail client, then you can delete them by doing the following:1. Get a shell prompt to your account using your hosting account username.
2. Use the "Pine" mail program by typing:
and hit the Enter key.
3. If you see a "Welcome to Pine" screen, type the letter:
to exit the greeting. Do not hit the Enter key.
4. Now you will see a Main Menu and after about 30 seconds, a prompt will appear at the bottom of the screen asking for a mailbox username. Enter the mailbox username (not the email address) of the mailbox that you need to delete messages from, then hit the Enter key. All mailbox usernames are lowercase.
5. Now you will see a password prompt. Type the mailbox password and hit the Enter key. Passwords are case sensitive and upper or lowercase characters must be typed exactly.
6. Now type the letter:
to access your Inbox. Do not hit the Enter key.
7. To delete messages, type the letter:
Do not hit the enter key. That will mark that message for deletion and move your cursor to the next message. You can also hold the "d" key down to move very quickly through the inbox marking all messages for deletion.
8. To Un-Delete a message marked for deletion, type the letter:
while your cursor is on that message. Do not hit the enter key.
9. To move up or down in the mailbox, use the up and down arrows on your keyboard to move the cursor.
10. When you have marked everything you want to be deleted, type the letter:
to quit. Do not hit the enter key. It will ask you if you really want to quit. Type the letter:
Do not hit the enter key. It will then ask you whether to really delete all those messages. Again, Type the letter:
Do not hit the enter key.
11. You have now deleted the messages and exited the "Pine" mail reader. You can now type "quit" to exit the shell.
Support requests to delete messages in a mailbox will be handled by deleting and then recreating the entire mailbox, which will mean a permanent loss of all messages in the mailbox. If there are any messages in the mailbox that you want to keep, use the above method to preserve them while deleting the others. Mail and mailboxes deleted at customer request cannot be restored.
