How do I upload and edit my files?

You can upload your files through ftp or edit them on the server using SSH. If your FTP client application supports SFTP, we highly recommend you connect to our server using this method, as it is more secure than plain FTP. Just use the Modwest username and password you chose when you signed up when connecting to our server.

FTP:
Connect to: ftp.modwest.com
Server Directory: /htdocs/www/

SSH:
Connect to: shell.modwest.com

A good ftp program is Ipswitch.com's WS_FTP LE.

Vandyke.com makes pretty good FTP, SSH, and Telnet clients too. Make sure that you are uploading your web pages into your /htdocs/www/ directory so the webserver will serve them.

You can also use scp from either your local Linux box or use WinSCP
(http://winscp.vse.cz/eng/) for secure file transfer.

Mac users will find that Captain FTP works quite well.

Also the ftp program found in your terminal in OSX is fine if you're on
the cheap.

It is the best FTP program on Mac. In 3.0 version you can copy files
from server to server. It is great!!! :)

Another excellent FTP client (and server) is the open source Filezilla.

You might try the free ftp client for OS X: Cyberduck
(http://cyberduck.ch)

Because FTP passes your username & password in plain text, it is highly
recommended that you configure your FTP client application to connect to
Modwest's FTP server via the 'SFTP' method, instead of plain 'FTP'.
